The campuses of San Francisco State University on the San Francisco peninsula and north bay are located within the occupied territories of the Ramaytush Ohlone and the Coastal Miwok (who, along with the Southern Pomo, are organized as the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria).
In Fall 2019, AIS has begun an initiative with community leaders throughout the area to ensure SF STATE not only acknowledges the multiple layers of Indigenous San Francisco and Marin counties but does so in a way that is meaningful and responsible to Indigenous people’s cultural teachings and concerns.
The first workshop was October 9, 2019, with members representing the diversity of Ohlone people.
